Grand Champion Steer brings $60,000

SPRINGFIELD – This year’s Illinois State Fair grand champion steer brought $60,000 and was shown by Adam Miller of Gridley.

All of the grand champion animals were sold at the fair Tuesday evening and the kids got to keep a portion of the money, with portions of the proceeds also benefiting Illinois FFA and 4-H. CME Group and other sponsors gave money so each exhibitor could receive a $6,000 check toward college.

In addition to Miller, of Livingston County, another area Parade of Champions winner included Ella Bobell of Logan County whose crossbred received grand champion barrow. All of the Illinois junior livestock competitors were named 2018 State Fair grand champions during the parade this week.
