McLean County harvest update
DOWNS – Southeastern McLean County farmer Dennis Wentworth reports higher-than-expected corn yields this fall with lower soybean yields.
Wentworth still has a couple of weeks to go before concluding the 2018 harvest as fieldwork was slowed by recent rains. He considers harvest progress still ahead of schedule although the recent wet weather may have put the current time frame closer to normal.
The Wentworths had around 75 percent of their corn and 90 percent of soybeans harvested as of last week.
“We have some double-crop beans to harvest for a neighbor so we feel really good about where we are at,” Wentworth told The Central Illinois Farm Network.
Fall projects for the Wentworths include tilling corn stalks, cleaning up equipment and maintaining roadsides and building sites.
“Keep safe – I know it’s nice to have a break,” Wentworth said. “Guys were getting tired and that’s when you have little mistakes and maybe big accidents.”
