SPRINGFIELD – There were two days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 2, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Monday afternoon for Illinois.

Statewide, the average temperature was 70.3 degrees, 3.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.79 inches, 0.83 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 40 percent adequate and 60 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 39 percent adequate and 61 percent surplus.

Corn planted was at 45 percent, compared to 100 percent last year and the 5-year average of 98 percent. Corn emerged was at 32 percent. Soybeans planted was at 21 percent, compared to 93 percent last year and the 5-year average of 84 percent. Soybeans emerged was at 13 percent.

Winter wheat headed reached 87 percent, compared to 97 percent last year and the 5-year average of 95 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated at 6 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 48 percent fair, 27 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.
