Illinois corn harvest 2% complete



There were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending September 8, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois on Monday.


Statewide, the average temperature was 65.0 degrees, 5.5 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.04 inches, 0.59 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 13 percent very short, 29 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 11 percent very short, 26 percent short, 62 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.


Corn dented reached 82 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 75 percent. Corn mature reached 40 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 24 percent. Corn harvested for grain reached 2 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 1 percent. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 17 percent excellent.


Soybeans dropping leaves reached 35 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 11. Soybeans harvested reached 1 percent. Soybeans condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 14 percent excellent.
