New field tool to come in handy
FAIRBURY – Growers have a new tool which can be used in the fall to make strips and to freshen those same strips in the spring.
The AGuru strip till bar is a multi-purpose tool, according to Bryan Fehr with Jenner Precision, which is a dealer for the product.
“We watched it run in the fall in some very sticky conditions and it works fabulous,” said Fehr during the recent Midwest Ag Expo. “You can get them anywhere from eight rows all the way to 24 rows.”
There are low, medium and heavy-duty draft configurations. Jenner Precision will primarily focus on the 12, 16 and 24-row models. AGuru allows farmers to apply dry fertilizer and anhydrous or liquid applications in the spring.
“We are excited about it,” added Fehr, who feels strip till is going to come back strong.
The last time strip till took off, prices were lower so producers wanted to do different things to save on inputs. This year, there are high dollar crops but also high inputs.
“I think if we can try to cut back on some of the inputs by going to strip till, that’ll be an awesome option.”
In other news, Jenner Precision plans to expand its shop near Fairbury as they will add 3,000 square feet to make more room for parts. Work is expected to start in late April and should be done in June. A 24-foot expansion is in the works to the north of the shop and a 39 by 40-foot expansion is planned back to the east for inventory.
“Most of the time, we are building all of the equipment that we sell out of the other two locations,” Fehr explained. “We are building the field cultivators, the 875 rippers and all of the ammonia bars.”
This planned expansion will allow Jenner Precision to work on applicator bars and planters at the same time. The public will be able to check out the new expansion during a summer open house.
