SPRINGFIELD – There were 2.5 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending April 9, 2023.

Statewide, the average temperature was 52.4 degrees, 5.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.73 inches; 0.02 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 0 percent very short, 6 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 21 percent surplus.

Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 26 percent surplus.

Corn planted was 1 percent, even with the 5-year average. Winter wheat headed was 1 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 2 percent. Winter wheat condition was 4 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 18 percent excellent.
