Weekly Crop Progress 8-7


There were 5.2 days suitable for field work during the week ending August 6, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois on Monday.


Statewide, the average temperature was 73.9 degrees, 0.1 of a degree above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.66 inches, 0.78 of an inch above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 9 percent very short, 21 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 9 percent very short, 24 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.


Corn dough reached 56 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 57 percent. Corn dented reached 1 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 7 percent. Corn condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.


Soybeans blooming reached 93 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 87 percent. Soybeans setting pods reached 73 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 62 percent. Soybean condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.
